Plan a trip at your own pace with AI
Give ChatGPT or Claude where, when, who's going, your pace, what you love, what to avoid and your budget, and ask for a simple day-by-day plan that estimates how much walking each day involves. Then tweak it by asking, and confirm hours, prices and bookings on the real websites.
The problem
Trip planning usually means a dozen browser tabs and guidebooks, and most travel sites can't plan around your pace, your knees or a long lunch every day.
Why AI helps
The details only you know ("one or two things a day," "no lots of stairs," "early to bed") are exactly what AI can plan around. It's also easy to change: swap a day, add rainy-day backups, or get a packing list.
Step by step
- Start a new chat so it begins fresh.
- Paste the trip prompt and fill in every bracket, especially pace and things to avoid.
- Read the plan and check the walking estimate for each day.
- Tweak it by asking: swap days, remove driving, add rainy-day backups.
- Copy the final plan into an email to yourself or your travel partner, then confirm each booking directly.
Copy-paste prompts
Replace anything in [square brackets] with your own details. AI answers vary from person to person, so we don't show a "typical" answer here; try it and see what you get.
Plan the trip
Please help me plan a trip. Here are the details: - Where: [city or region] - When: [month or dates] - How long: [number] days - Who's going: [for example, "my wife and me, both in our 60s"] - Our pace: [for example, "relaxed: one or two main things a day and a long lunch"] - Things we love: [for example, "history, good seafood, gardens, live music"] - Things to avoid: [for example, "long lines, lots of stairs, late nights"] - Budget: [for example, "moderate: nice but not fancy"] Please give me a simple day-by-day plan. Keep it easy to read, and tell me roughly how much walking each day involves.
Tweak it
This looks great. Can you swap Day 3 for something that doesn't require driving? And add one rainy-day backup idea for each day.
Packing list
Can you make a simple packing list for this trip? We're bringing one suitcase each.
Limits and safety
- AI can be out of date on hours, prices and whether a place is still open. Confirm anything you book.
- Walking estimates are rough. Check maps for distances and hills if mobility matters.
- Never share passport numbers, card numbers or your home address. You don't need them to plan.
- Use AI for ideas; book directly with the hotel, airline or tour company.
