Break 90 (or 100) with an AI game plan

Give ChatGPT or Claude your goal score, your typical round and your usual misses, and ask for a realistic plan: where you're probably losing strokes, a "bogey is fine" strategy, and the 2 or 3 skills to practice first. Then track a few simple stats each round so the plan is based on your numbers, not guesses.

Time: About 10 minutes, then 2 minutes after each round · Tools: ChatGPT or Claude, ideally inside your Golf Coach Project · By Austin Christensen · Last updated

The problem

Golfers chasing a scoring goal often practice the wrong thing, usually the driver, when the strokes are being lost to penalties, chips and three-putts.

Why AI helps

AI can turn a vague goal into a short plan and a simple tracking habit. Inside a Golf Coach Project, saved round notes build up over time, so each review starts from your real numbers.

Using Projects: Projects are folders that remember your instructions. Per the official help pages (checked October 13, 2026): ChatGPT Projects are available to signed-in users and free accounts can add up to 5 files per project; Claude Projects are available on free accounts, which can create up to 5 projects. In Claude, chats in a project don't share context unless the information is in the project knowledge. See how to set one up.

Step by step

  1. Open your Golf Coach Project, or a new chat in ChatGPT or Claude.
  2. Paste the Breaking prompt with your goal (100, 90 or 80) and tap the arrow to send.
  3. Ask for the stat tracker. Keep it to 3 or 4 numbers, such as putts, penalty strokes and lost balls.
  4. After each round, paste the Post-Round Review prompt with those numbers.
  5. Every month, ask it to compare your rounds and update the 2 or 3 skills to practice. In Claude, save each review as a project file, because chats in a project don't see each other.

Breaking [100 / 90 / 80]

I want to break [goal]. Give me a realistic plan: where I'm probably losing strokes, a "bogey is fine" strategy, and the 2-3 skills to practice first.

Simple stats

Help me track my rounds with a few simple stats.

Post-Round Review

I just played. I shot [score]. Good things: [list]. Bad things: [list]. Number of putts (if you know): [number]. Lost balls or penalties: [number]. Help me review it like a coach: 2 things that went well, 1 thing to work on, and one drill for this week.

Limits and safety

  • "Where you're losing strokes" is a guess until you track real numbers. Give it a few rounds.
  • Don't change your swing mid-round because of a chat. Save swing work for the range or a lesson.
  • Scoring goals should stay fun. If it's not, ask the AI for a few fun side games to play with your group.
