Build a golf practice plan with AI

Tell ChatGPT or Claude how much time you have, your bucket size and your biggest problem, and ask for a plan in time blocks that ends with on-course-style shots. The same approach gives you safe at-home drills and a realistic 4-week plan with a simple way to track progress.

Time: About 5 minutes per plan · Tools: ChatGPT or Claude, ideally inside your Golf Coach Project · By Austin Christensen · Last updated

The problem

Most range sessions are a bucket of drivers with no plan. Time is limited, and without structure it's hard to tell whether you're getting better.

Why AI helps

AI is good at turning constraints (30 minutes, a medium bucket, a slice, a stiff back) into a numbered plan. Inside a Golf Coach Project it already knows your practice time and limits, so the plan fits you.

Using Projects: Projects are folders that remember your instructions. Per the official help pages (checked October 13, 2026): ChatGPT Projects are available to signed-in users and free accounts can add up to 5 files per project; Claude Projects are available on free accounts, which can create up to 5 projects. In Claude, chats in a project don't share context unless the information is in the project knowledge. See how to set one up.

Step by step

  1. Open your Golf Coach Project so your profile and practice time are already known.
  2. Pick one plan below: range session, at-home drills or 4-week plan.
  3. Fill in the brackets with today's details and paste it.
  4. Ask for a shorter version or a printable checklist with the follow-ups.
  5. After the session, note what worked and save it as a project file.

The 30-Minute Range Plan

I have 30 minutes and a [small/medium/large] bucket at the range. My biggest problem right now is [problem]. Make me a focused plan in time blocks that ends with a few "pretend you're on the course" shots.

Practice at Home (No Range Needed)

Give me 5 golf drills I can do at home in [my living room/garage/backyard] with [what you have: a club, a putter, a towel, foam balls]. Explain each one in 3 steps or less and tell me what part of my game it helps. Keep them safe for indoor use.

Your 4-Week Improvement Plan

Build me a realistic 4-week plan that fits the practice time in my profile. Include a weekly focus, specific drills, and a simple way to track progress. Keep it doable, not overwhelming.

Then try

Make a version for when I only have 15 minutes. Then turn week 1 into a checklist I can print.

Limits and safety

  • Check your ceiling and surroundings before swinging indoors; use foam balls or a putter if space is tight.
  • Stop if a drill hurts. Talk to your doctor before a new exercise routine, especially after surgery or an injury.
  • The 4-week prompt assumes a Golf Coach Project; without one, add your practice time and goals to the prompt.
